GM1

GM1 now at its new home in Perth. Rail museum at Bassendean

Since my visit to Parkes in Feb 2022 it appears GM1 is now on the move to W.A. A photo has appeared on Facebook showing the loco on a low loader at Nullabor. Hopefully it can be restored to some of its former glory at its new home.

Here is a photo by Bernie Baker of GM1 on the lo loader at Parkes ready for its transfer to W.A.

In February 2022 I did a road trip to Parkes NSW to see if GM1 was still in storage there. To my horror it was still sitting in the same place I saw it in 2018.

GM1 is Australia's most iconic diesel locomotive. It was built at the Clyde Engineering Works in Sydney and commissioned in September 1951 for the Commonwealth Railways. It was Australia's first mainland diesel locomotive. The locomotive was last proudly displayed at the Streamliners event at Goulburn in Oct 2016.
